Freelance Junior / Assistant Editor
Documentary, Online Short Form and Promo Content - July 2026
Location: Aberystwyth, Wales (regular collaboration from our Aberystwyth office)
Engagement: Freelance contract for services
Expected Duration: Approximately 2-3 months, with the possibility of further freelance project work
Expected Commitment: Approximately 4 days per week, starting asap
Rate: £26,000 pro rata
fforest films is seeking a Freelance Junior / Assistant Editor to support a range of commercial and documentary projects.
This opportunity would suit someone with an interest in creative commercial promos, short-form factual content, documentary and outdoor pursuits storytelling. Welsh language skills are desirable but not essential.
The successful freelancer will contribute to projects at various stages of production and post-production, working with a small creative team on a range of content.
Essential Requirements
Ability and willingness to regularly work from our Aberystwyth office.
Demonstrable editing experience through professional, academic or personal projects.
Demonstrable understanding of formats, codecs, media management and preparing projects for edit.
Proficiency in DaVinci Resolve and Adobe Premiere Pro (experience with Avid is advantageous).
Strong organisational skills, including file management, housekeeping and backup procedures.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
Ability to work independently and collaborate effectively within a small team.
Interest in documentary filmmaking, factual content and commercial promotional work.
A reliable, proactive and professional approach to work.
Desirable Skills and Experience
Welsh language.
Motion graphics or graphic design experience.
Colour correction experience.
Understanding of camera operation and production workflows.

Assistant Producer

THE ROLE
fforest films has a position available in for a researcher or assistant producer. for up to 6 months. Extension possible. Opportunity for someone with an interest in development to work on documentaries, factual TV and commercial work.
For this role you must be Welsh speaking and live in Ceredigion. Those from Ceredigion wishing to return may also apply. Those without factual TV or media experience but with specialist transferable skills are welcome to apply. There is the opportunity for training courses.
Essential:
Motivated self-starter with excellent writing skills
Proven research experience
Great with people
Desire a career in factual TV or commercial content creation
Live in Ceredigion
Desirable:
Experience working in factual TV, documentaries, arts or commercial work
Professional media experience, in particular social.

Are you organised and a good communicator? Are you creative, full of ideas, and not afraid to talk to new people? Are you interested in documentaries or factual television, have a background in animal behaviour, anthropology, human geography, science or history? Have you organised a podcast or shot a short film or music video? We're looking for a good writer who loves meeting and talking to new people, is capable of finding interesting stories, is organised and capable of working alone to get jobs done. The role will be varied depending on the projects you're working on so it can be very rewarding.
