We Are Albert - Green Memo
FFOREST FILMS / STIWDIO FFOREST LTD
GREEN MEMO
As a small documentary production company, signing up to We Are ALBERT reflects our commitment to responsible, ethical filmmaking and to being more environmentally conscious in how we work. We recognise that one of the biggest contributors to a production’s carbon footprint is travel, whether for crew, contributors, location scouting or transporting equipment, and becoming part of ALBERT helps us stay focused on reducing unnecessary movement and making more sustainable choices. Holding a Green Memo shows that we meet recognised environmental standards and encourages us to plan more carefully, use greener alternatives where possible and remain accountable. Supporting local talent is also important to us, as it reduces travel, strengthens the local creative community and helps build a more sustainable industry overall.
We are aiming for Albert Certification.

Why We’re Doing This
We’re committed to making our documentary as environmentally sustainable as possible. Even small changes can have a big impact, and together we can reduce our carbon footprint, minimize waste, and work thoughtfully. This memo outlines how you can help.
Key Green Actions for This Production
Travel & Transport
- Use sustainable travel wherever possible. Opt for train travel for longer journeys instead of flying.
- Car share where possible to reduce the number of vehicles used.
- Minimise unnecessary travel by coordinating meetings, recces, and prep efficiently.
Paper & Documentation
- Use as little paper as possible: all scripts, call sheets, schedules, and risk assessments will be distributed electronically.
- If hard copies are absolutely needed, print double sided and use paper with at least 30% recycled content.
- Printed materials will be offered on an opt in basis.
Waste & Recycling
- Avoid single use plastics at all times.
- Provide clearly labelled recycling bins for paper, plastics, and compostable waste.
- Aim for a high recycling rate throughout the production.
Catering & Consumables
- No disposable plastic water bottles. Please bring a reusable water bottle.
- Bring a reusable cup for tea/coffee.
- A flat of coffee will be brought to the location to avoid takeaway cups and waste.
- Use reusable or compostable dishware whenever possible.
Power & Energy Use
- Use recyclable batteries for equipment, even sound equipment and LED lighting.
- Use generators sparingly. When generators are required, they should run on biodiesel.
- Switch off lights, vehicles, and equipment when not in use.
Departmental Sustainability
- Each department is encouraged to consider ways to reduce its environmental impact.
- Local suppliers should be prioritised to reduce transport emissions.
Communication & Accountability
- This Green Memo will be shared with all cast, crew, and suppliers.
- A Green Lead / Steward will be appointed to track and support sustainable practices across the production.

Albert Scheme Commitment
We participate in BAFTA’s Albert scheme — a collaborative initiative supported by BAFTA, independent producers, and broadcasters. The scheme provides the film and TV industries with tools, knowledge, and opportunities to embed environmental sustainability into production. Its mission is to ensure all screen content is made in a way that positively contributes to people, industry organisations, and the planet.
